Street Work

Our street team engages daily with street children in seven major Ghanaian cities. We build relationships with children who are unsupervised, out of school and together find solutions to their individual needs.

Notably, Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi are seeing a rapid increase in street children.

We collaborate with local groups to protect these children from street hazards.  We also focus on reunifying children with their families and supporting their education. Our street workers provide guidance on safety, health and education. We also work with “street champions” to support community advocacy and connect children to community resources. This enhances community ownership.

In our shelters, we prepare street children to be reunified with families, go back to school or professional training. We also strengthen families and communities to eventually take care of the children.

Our Resource Centres are Day Centres where children receive education, daily meals, medical and psychological care.

Our family-like Residential Homes serve as centres for children who cannot be reunified with family in the short term.

Through our Skill Development Centre, young adults get ready for professional training in companies. We provide an environment where the youth can learn, engage, and develop the needed life skills for independence.

Family Strengthening

We foster family and community-based care for children. Our team focuses on protection, education, health and improvement of economic situation.

We reunify street children with their families and support the families till they can take care of their children and no longer need our assistance. We also strengthen families whose children are at risk of running to the street due to poverty and other challenges.

We connect families to stakeholders and community resources so they can ultimately take care of their children and support them to become responsible citizens.

We strengthen communities to become self-sustaining to ensure that their children are safe, healthy, and educated. We enhance collective responsibility and respect for diversity.

Our educational workshops enhance the skills of children, their families, and community members. Families now invest time and resources in their children’s wellbeing and education while stakeholders are against child abuse.

This creates nurturing environments for children and reduces migration of children to the streets.

Community Strengthening

TVET

As part of CFC’s expanded strategy, we developed together with SITECO a program that is unique for Ghana and based on Switzerland’s dual vocational training model. The program takes into consideration the special needs and strengths of street youth.

The program enhances 21st – century skills, life skills and work ethics of street youth. This enables them to have great professions so that they can cater for themselves in the future and support others.

We work closely with companies and their trainers to provide hands-on training. The TVET program is tailored to cultural and regional context. With support from international companies and the Swiss Embassy in Accra, our Business Club helps students gain skills required in industry.
