We ensure that street children are safe, educated, healthy and equipped for life

For more than 25 years, Chance for Children has been strengthening street children and their families in Ghana by providing them with a chance to build a better future.

The population of children leaving their home, constantly on the move to earn a living is rising rapidly in Ghana. They suffer abuse on the street and do not have the chance to be in school or learn a profession.

Through our work we engage with children and their families to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing. The empowerment of people, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are pivotal to our work.

We have equipped thousands of children with education, skills and values to become impressive young citizens and professionals.

Today, they pass these on to their families, friends, communities, and beyond. Collaboration with local opinion leaders, non-profit organizations, and corporate entities remains central to bridging the gap between education and the labour market.

Children are constantly on the move in Ghana. Their number is rapidly increasing.

The population of children leaving their home, constantly on the move to earn a living is rising rapidly in Ghana. The migration routes often lead these children to urban centers for work. They suffer abuse on the street and do not have the chance to be in school or learn a profession.

Street-connected children face dangerous conditions, including child labour and exploitation. Along the coasts of Takoradi, Accra, Cape Coast, and along the Volta Lake through Dambai and Ho, children engage in dangerous activities including deep sea fishing in the night, or even selling their bodies through sex work.

To address these pressing needs, we continue to reach out and be present where these children are.

Through our integrated approach, we strengthen families and communities to be self reliant

The basis of our work is to establish relationships of trust with the children to address their life challenges and enhance wellbeing.

We are present daily on the streets to understand their needs and be there with them and for them.  We work with our children to find solutions and reunite them with their families.

Our family and community strengthening programs focus on building support entire systems around children needs. By strengthening families and communities, we help them become self-reliant so they can provide a safe and stable environment for children to grow and develop.

At Chance for Children, we find unique solutions for every individual child while fostering system change. We have successfully replicated our approach beyond Accra to Kumasi, Tamale, Takoradi and Dambai and adapted it to the local contexts and cultural backgrounds.
